Matchbox Consulting Group is partnering with a locally owned and operated civil infrastructure and utilities contractor based in Langley looking for a seasoned Civil Estimator. This opportunity provides a serious growth path into higher management, helping shape the direction and flow of where the company is headed.
Key Responsibilities

Analyze drawings, specifications, and scope of work for civil infrastructure, site development, utilities and excavation/shoring projects.

Prepare quantity take-offs, cost models and budgets (labour, equipment, materials, subcontractors, overhead, margin).

Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids, compare pricing, and develop subcontract scopes.

Develop pricing strategies aligned with company goals (growth, margin, risk management).

Identify project risk factors, contingencies, and mitigation strategies; incorporate into the estimate.

Collaborate with the estimating and pre-construction team to review constructability, schedule, logistical considerations, site constraints (e.g., shoring, underground utilities, environmental).

Prepare bid submission packages, assemble supporting documentation, and present final estimates to senior management.

Track and maintain historical cost database and unit rates, monitor market trends (labour, equipment, material) in the civil sector.

Assist with post-bid review, analyze wins/losses, update lessons learned.

Support the business development team with proposals, client meetings, pre-bid review sessions.

Ensure estimating processes and systems are maintained and continuously improved.
Required Qualifications & Skills

Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or related field (or equivalent experience).

7 + years of estimating experience in heavy civil/site infrastructure, utilities or earthworks/excavation/shoring.

Strong experience with quantity take-offs and cost modelling for civil works (e.g., site grading, asphalt, concrete, underground utilities, shoring).

Proficiency in estimating software and MS Office (Excel, Word); familiarity with industry tools (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, CostX) is an asset.

Strong analytical skills with ability to read civil drawings and specifications (including geotechnical reports, shoring plans, utility drawings).

Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills—to deal with suppliers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.

Detail-oriented with proven ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously under tight deadlines.

Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a growth-mindset.

Knowledge of local/regional marketplace, labour rates, equipment rates, OH&S standards (WorkSafeBC) and environmental regulations is a plus.
