On behalf of our clients Matchbox Consulting is are currently hiring a Construction Safety Officer to ensure the safety and well-being of all personnel working on our construction projects. As a Construction Safety Officer, you will be responsible for implementing and enforcing safety protocols and procedures, conducting safety inspections, and promoting a culture of safety among our construction teams. Your primary goal will be to mitigate potential hazards and minimize the risk of accidents and injuries on our construction sites.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs and policies for all construction projects, in line with local regulations and industry best practices.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of construction sites, equipment, and work practices to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Collaborate with project managers and site supervisors to establish and communicate safety protocols, procedures, and guidelines.
- Provide safety training and orientation to all construction personnel, including new hires, subcontractors, and visitors to the construction sites.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, inspections, and training sessions, and prepare reports as required.
- Conduct regular safety meetings with construction teams to address safety concerns, provide feedback, and promote a culture of safety awareness.
- Stay up-to-date with current safety regulations, standards, and industry trends to ensure compliance and recommend improvements to existing safety practices.
- Collaborate with external safety agencies and regulatory bodies as required, ensuring compliance with all legal requirements.
- Foster a positive safety culture by promoting employee engagement, participation, and accountability in safety initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Construction Safety Officer or similar role in the construction industry.
- In-depth knowledge of construction safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Strong understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment, and accident prevention strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with construction teams, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities to handle multiple priorities and effectively address safety concerns.
- Certification or training in construction safety (e.g., OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification) is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with construction equipment, machinery, and processes is a plus.
- Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure and effectively handle emergency situations.
- Proficiency in using safety-related software, tools, and technologies.
- A bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred, but not mandatory.
