MatchBox Consulting is working closely with one of Western Canada’s largest and most prominent developer-builders in search for a Manager, Project Accounting to join their amazing team. Our client is recognized as one of the best companies to work for in the construction industry, they are highly respected for their work culture and employee retention.

The ideal Manager, Project Accounting will have strong experience working in the construction and/or development field. The hired candidate will have an opportunity to help build out the accounting and finance team for the company's continued expansion into the GTA. This position will be based at the company's Etobicoke office. 

Responsibilities:

• Operational decision support: Provide strategic decision support to Construction and Development groups
• Support the monthly cost to complete and cash flow process, coordinating with the project manager (construction) and development manager along with other stakeholders including leasing and sales
• Integrate forecasts from each group for timely project reporting to support sales and leasing decisions along with oversight of financial and non-financial performance measures for the project
• Identify opportunities to provide value to the Project and Leadership teams through a deep understanding of the project and business requirements
• Assist in providing updated income forecasts on job specific, and overall divisional basis, throughout the year and for the annual budget process
• Enforce existing financial systems, controls and processes, and recommend improvements in collaboration with Construction, Development, and Finance teams
• Analyze proforma budgets, forecasts and performance and communicate findings to key stakeholders
• Accounting and Reporting: Oversee accounting and finance related activities for properties under development and construction. 
• Oversee all aspects of job reporting, including costs, schedule, profit and/or yield
• Oversee job structure and coding to ensure appropriate allocation, especially for multi-phase and multi-use projects
• Manage construction billings and collections for jobs with external parties
• Support quarterly reporting and year-end audit, including preparation of year-end files, certain working papers, analysis and other support as required
• Review development entity financial statements, identifying and explaining variances
• Leadership: Manage a team and provide effective leadership within the regional office and across project accounting team
• Awareness of the unique needs and requirements of both the Finance, Development, and Construction teams, providing leadership to all groups in an effort to support an environment of collaboration and continuous improvement. 
• Promote culture of teamwork through assisting, coaching, and directing staff
• Assist in building, and developing, a team of project accountants in Ontario.

Qualifications:

• Proven leader with strong project management
• Significant experience in construction and development operations, and project accounting
• An understanding of construction financing requirements
• Capacity to connect with construction and development teams, understand their perspectives and communicate effectively with an operational mindset
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a natural inclination for collaboration
• Skillfully challenge assumptions and ask the hard questions
• An organized self-starter with a strong work ethic who can succeed both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
• Able to be flexible and manage multiple objectives, likely with competing priorities
• Strong attention to detail balanced with an awareness of the bigger picture
• University degree and accounting designation (CA, CPA, CGA, CMA)
• Strong understanding of GAAP, REALpac and financial reporting
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office
• Experience with Yardi ERP and Procore project management software is an asset.
