MatchBox Consulting Group are currently seeking a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer on behalf of one of BC’s largest electrical and utility companies.
Location: Burnaby, BC | Hybrid (2-3 days in office)
Estimated Contract Duration: 6 months
Purpose of the role: To support Civil-structural activities for our clients’ project portfolio
Responsibilities:
- Utilize technical expertise to review and provide feedback on inspection and test plans, as well as contractor submittals.
- Oversee and witness testing procedures, including factory acceptance tests, ensuring compliance with test specifications and standards.
- Lead the resolution of non-conformities and ensure effective remediation.
- Collaborate with engineering teams, supply chain, contract management, construction management, and suppliers to ensure that materials and services meet specifications and quality assurance requirements.
- Manage supplier relationships, including participating in strategic sourcing, defining evaluation criteria, evaluating proposals, conducting supplier assessments, and overseeing improvement plans.
- Prepare detailed reports, memos, project quality plans, and other documentation.
- Review the work of team members, consultants, and contractors to ensure accuracy, compliance with quality standards, and achievement of desired results.
- Provide direction to in-house or contracting field inspectors and act as a representative for various inspection and audit contracts.
- Use a blend of business acumen, communication skills, and technical knowledge to deliver efficient and technically sound solutions to challenges.
- Exhibit self-motivation and adaptability while managing multiple concurrent projects.
- Develop and manage quality scopes, estimates, and deliverables.
- Identify and propose mitigation plans for quality risks on assigned projects.
- Support the Project Manager, taking on the role of QA Work Package Manager or providing civil/structural support for multi-million-dollar projects.
Requirements:
Must haves:
- A minimum eight (8) years of experience in a relevant engineering field or equivalent
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Registered or immediately eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer as a member in good standing with EGBC
- Class 5 driver’s license
Assets:
- Hydroelectric or Electric Utilities: Experience with hydroelectric projects, electric utilities (transmission, distribution, generation), and related equipment fabrication and testing.
- Quality Assurance: Knowledge of quality assurance tools and methods, and public procurement processes.
- Auditing: Experience in auditing manufacturing, construction sites, or plant evaluations.
- Manufacturing: Background in a manufacturing environment.
- Concrete and Civil Inspections: Experience with concrete mix designs, related tests, repair methodologies, and civil inspections including soil sampling, fill material testing, and site compaction analysis.
- Design and Construction: Understanding of civil and structural design, concrete foundations, caissons, helical piles, pre-cast materials, structural steel, welding practices, and construction quality processes.
