On behalf of our client, Matchbox Consulting Group is looking for an experienced Deficiency Technician who has worked on residential properties in the past and provides exceptional customer service to homeowners, regarding pre-occupancy and new home warranty before and after. Our client is a respected, well-funded developer with offices in Surrey and the Fraser Valley.

The Technician will report to the Customer Care Director/Manager.  At the post-occupancy phase of the project, they will need to be able to prioritize workloads, manage projects, work with other trades, deal with purchasers/home owners all while working closely with our Service Coordinators.

The Senior Service Technician will undertake warranty work for our past projects; fix and eliminate deficiency items. As required, Senior Service Technician may be required to assist the customer care team in the scheduling and completion of pre-possession deficiencies. 

Responsibilities

  • Post-Occupancy Service & Warranty Care:
  • Adhere to the schedule produced by Customer Care
  • Working closely with our Service Coordinator in the preparation of daily/weekly schedule
  • Complete warranty and/or service work which includes:
  • Fix and eliminate warranted deficiency items as noted on Homeowner 60 day, 1st year warranty submissions.  (Drywall, paint, finishing, detailed and general carpentry work)
  • Review service warranty lists with homeowners – explaining which item will be rectified immediately and why.
  • Advise of required assigned work needed by trades
  • Report and/or track incomplete work items
  • Obtaining homeowners signature on completed items.
  • Preparing materials required to complete service work prior to visiting homeowners.

Qualifications and Knowledge:

  • 5 years relevant experience with residential construction, quality control or finishing carpentry is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret specifications, drawings and other construction related documents.
  • Post-Secondary and / or diploma/certificate in Trades Training, Journeyman designation or related experience as asset.
  • Familiar with and confident in completing minor repairs within residential homes related to plumbing, electrical, cabinets, flooring, including cosmetic type surface repairs. Must have basic hand tools.
  • General knowledge of construction and be familiar with components of multi-family buildings to effectively educate and provide information to homeowners.
  • Experience using MS Office suite, Adobe, and other Construction or sales related software. Must be computer literate.
  • Understanding of the 2-5-10 New Home Warranty as mandated by the Homeowner Protection Office and as defined in the Residential Construction Performance Guide.
  • Possess superior organizational skills in order to prioritize work load, time management and critical thinking skills.
  • Possess effective communication skills (verbal and written); able to communicate with a variety of people and groups. Professional e-mail and phone skills.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable with a strong willingness to learn and be challenged.
  • Comfortable dealing with the public or homeowners with an empathetic and understanding attitude a must.
  • Positive and upbeat attitude with strong interpersonal skills including conflict resolution abilities.
  • Candidate will be punctual, have good working habits and appearance to be clean and tidy.
  • Must have a reliable vehicle available daily and possess a valid class 5 driver’s license
