Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Project Specialist Engineer to lead complex electrical infrastructure projects with a focus on Protection, Control, and Telecommunication systems. This position plays a key role in ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of large-scale, multi-discipline engineering projects across British Columbia. Ideal candidates will bring strong technical leadership, project coordination, and stakeholder engagement experience, along with deep knowledge of transmission systems and engineering design practices.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering scope, schedule, and cost of medium to large-scale protection, control, and telecommunication projects.
  • Act as Owner’s Engineer for projects delivered externally, coordinating internal reviews and acceptance processes
  • Coordinate design planning and oversight, including development of technical specifications and engineering review strategies.
  • Manage technical risk and ensure effective system integration across the transmission network.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineering teams, construction groups, and field operations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers and contribute to team performance objectives.
  • Support enhancements to engineering standards, processes, and quality assurance.
  • Present recommendations and project updates to senior leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering from a Canadian-recognized institution.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a P.Eng. with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in transmission systems, telecommunications, control systems, or related fields.
  • At least 4 years of experience leading and coordinating engineering design on complex infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of project delivery and design processes in regulated environments.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder coordination skills.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies.
  • Experience in Owner’s Engineer roles, managing external consultant deliverables, is an asset.
  • Previous work with telecom or protection and control projects is highly desirable.
  • Site-based experience on large construction projects (e.g., substations, hydroelectric stations, transmission lines) is beneficial.
  • End-to-end engineering lifecycle experience from concept through commissioning is an asset.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License in good standing.

  • This is a safety-sensitive position; pre-employment drug and alcohol testing is required.

  • Candidates not meeting full qualifications may be considered for a lower-level position.
