Senior Engineer – Cost Estimating (Transmission Projects)
Location: Burnaby, BC (Hybrid)
Positions Available: 2 (Full Time, Permanent)

Overview:

Join a high-impact team supporting a broad range of transmission infrastructure projects. You’ll prepare and review project cost estimates for substation and transmission line projects across multiple stages of the project lifecycle—from early planning to implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead cost estimating for high-voltage (69kV–500kV) transmission and substation projects.

• Support funding approvals with well-documented estimates, risk quantification, and cost breakdowns.

• Provide input on construction methods, schedules, risks, and procurement strategies.

• Review estimates by others (including 3rd parties) and mentor junior staff.

• Maintain industry cost knowledge, contribute to process improvements, and support internal training.

• Liaise with stakeholders across teams to align estimates with project goals and business drivers.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, or Structural Engineering (Canadian-recognized).

• Registered or eligible as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in BC.

• Minimum 8 years of experience in engineering, estimating, or construction on industrial/infrastructure projects.

• At least 4 years of direct cost estimating experience, ideally with substations or transmission lines.

• Proficient with MS Office Suite, Primavera P6, and @Risk; estimating software experience is an asset.

• Strong communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.

Assets:

• Exposure to all project phases (planning to construction).

• Knowledge of AACE estimating practices.

• Experience preparing substation conceptual layouts.

• Familiarity with other substation disciplines (e.g., Protection & Control, SCADA/Telecom).

• Field experience on large construction projects.

• Capital planning or asset management background.

• Involvement with industry organizations (e.g., AACEI, BuildForce).

Additional Information:

• Travel to project sites across BC may be required.

• Must hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license.

• Drug and alcohol testing may be a pre-employment requirement.

• Candidates with 4+ years of relevant experience and a P.Eng. designation may also be considered
