Role Summary
We are seeking a collaborative and experienced Principal to lead a multidisciplinary mechanical engineering team in Calgary. The ideal candidate brings strong technical acumen, a passion for mentorship, and a proactive approach to client engagement and business operations. This role is a blend of leadership, project management, team development, and business development.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and mentor a team of Associate Principals, Engineers, Technologists, and Designers.

Maintain and grow client relationships; actively participate in business development (10–20% of the role).

Manage complex mechanical engineering projects from inception to delivery.

Oversee project scope, budgeting, invoicing, and schedule performance.

Identify opportunities for additional services and write corresponding proposals.

Ensure high-quality engineering deliverables and support QA/QC during design and construction.

Support recruiting, onboarding, performance evaluations, and staff development.

Foster a collaborative and transparent office culture aligned with company values.

Contribute to RFP responses, fee proposals, and contract negotiations.

Support strategic planning and the overall direction of the office.
Qualifications
-
15+ years of industry experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity.

P.Eng. designation preferred (PMP or equivalent also considered); registration in Alberta or eligibility for transfer required.

Proven ability to manage projects profitably and deliver high client satisfaction.

Strong financial literacy related to engineering operations (WIP, utilization, backlog, burn rates, etc.).

Experienced in mentoring and developing staff in a hands-on, team-based environment.

Effective communicator with clients, internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders.

Comfortable in an open-concept office; able to lead by example and support the team during peak workload.
