Matchbox Consulting Group is seeking a Distribution Regional Engineer to support utility distribution operations and capital projects for a major energy provider in British Columbia. This role will focus on electrical distribution systems (overhead and underground) operating at voltages up to 35kV, supporting both day-to-day operations and system upgrades. The engineer will work closely with field staff and technical teams to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient solutions across the region.
Duration: 1 year (Potential for renewal based on performance and/or business needs).
Location: Vernon, BC (Hybrid – onsite and WFH)

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver engineering support for medium-voltage overhead and underground distribution systems
• Develop safe and reliable technical solutions for operational and capital work
• Seal and review engineering designs in compliance with professional regulatory standards
• Analyze and resolve complex system challenges using sound engineering judgment
• Coordinate field and office-based activities across various stakeholders
• Provide technical leadership and contribute to ongoing improvements in distribution practices

Requirements:

• Minimum 8 years of relevant engineering experience in power distribution (Candidates with 4+ years of experience will be considered at an appropriate rate)
• Registered P.Eng. in good standing with Engineers & Geoscientists BC, including Permit to Practice
• Strong knowledge of OH/UG distribution systems (up to 35kV), including secondary systems
• Proficient in engineering design, analysis, and troubleshooting
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
• Ability to work from the Vernon office in a hybrid capacity (not remote-only)

Nice to Have:

• Experience with industry tools such as CymeDist, CymeTCC, SpidaCALC, or PLS-CADD
