MatchBox Consulting Group is on the hunt for a Power systems Engineer. Our client is a key player in Alberta’s electricity sector, responsible for ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the province’s interconnected power system. They support the integration of new technologies, oversee system operations, and play an important role in the transformation of Alberta’s energy landscape.

Duration: 2 years (Possibility of extension) 

Responsibilities:

• Manage and maintain reliable real-time operation of critical power system applications (automatic generation control, state estimation, contingency analysis).
• Implement and update EMS models to reflect changes in system topology.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues with real-time power system applications.
• Contribute as subject matter expert for system upgrades, enhancements, and strategic initiatives.
• Develop and implement process improvements for EMS application management.
• Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours EMS support.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus in Power Systems (or equivalent experience).
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation with APEGA, preferred.
• 5–8 years’ experience with real-time reliability tools (AGC, state estimation, stability, contingency analysis).
• Familiarity with SCADA concepts and applications.
• Experience with engineering scripting/programming languages.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive).
• Experience with GE’s AEMS (e-terra) and/or integration with market management systems, an asset.
