Matchbox Consulting Group is seeking an Automation Engineer
 in Burnaby, BC. This position is ideal for a senior electrical engineer with 8+ years of experience in automation, protection, and control systems for generation and energy storage facilities (12kV–500kV). You’ll play a key role in designing, programming, testing, and commissioning intelligent electronic devices, preparing technical documentation, supporting capital projects, and assisting with maintenance and commissioning plans.

The team is collaborative, and values technical expertise, innovation, and mentorship. This role offers the opportunity to act as Professional of Record, guide junior engineers, and contribute to critical generation and energy storage infrastructure.

Requirements:

• Degree in Electrical Engineering

• Registered as a P.Eng. with EGBC

• Minimum 8 years of relevant work experience

• Demonstrated technical knowledge of diesel and hydro-electric generation systems

• Experience designing, programming, troubleshooting, and commissioning intelligent electronic devices including: PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, protection relays, microgrid controllers, and communication devices

• Ability to prepare technical documentation, control narratives, hazard logs, test plans, and O&M procedures

• Witness factory acceptance testing and oversee site installation and commissioning of diesel gensets, battery energy storage systems, and associated equipment

• Proven ability to work well with peers and crews

• Valid Class 5 driver’s license

Nice to Haves:

• Technical support experience for off-grid diesel generation and energy storage facilities (100 kW – 10 MW), including diesel gensets, battery energy storage, protection, controls, instrumentation, switchgear, and fuel systems

• Experience with Siemens or SEL devices

• Testing and commissioning knowledge
