Matchbox Consulting Group is on the hunt for a Mechanical Engineer. This candidate provides mechanical engineering expertise for hydropower generation facilities, with a focus on turbines, generators, and governor systems. The role supports capital projects, maintenance programs, and Owners Engineer review work. Responsibilities include engineering design, analysis, technical oversight, and coordination with multiple stakeholders to ensure safe, reliable, and high-quality project delivery.

Contract: 1 year

Key Responsibilities
• Deliver engineering solutions for hydropower mechanical systems, including Francis, Pelton, and Kaplan turbines; generators; governor systems; gates; valves; and related equipment.
• Conduct engineering analysis, resolve technical challenges, and interpret specifications for medium-complexity projects.
• Review and develop mechanical designs, technical documentation, drawings, and calculations.
• Support planning, estimating, quality management, and project reporting activities.
• Perform Owners Engineer reviews and provide clear, structured technical feedback.
• Collaborate with project managers, operations, maintenance teams, and external stakeholders.
• Conduct site visits for inspections, troubleshooting, and field engineering support.
• Participate in developing engineering standards and provide guidance to junior engineers and EITs.
• Use CAD and engineering software to support drafting, modeling, and design work.
• Assist with commissioning, testing, and equipment acceptance activities as required.

Must-Have Qualifications
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) 
• Strong expertise in hydropower turbines, generators, and/or governor systems.
• Mechanical engineering experience in project environments with multiple stakeholders.
• Ability to perform independent technical analysis and solve complex problems.
• Proficiency with CAD systems and industry design/analysis tools.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel for site visits.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications
• Experience working in a utility or large-scale industrial environment.
• Experience with organizations similar in scale to major power producers.
• PMP certification or project management training.
• Background in testing, commissioning, or maintenance of hydropower station equipment.
