Matchbox Consulting Group is on the hunt for an Engineer with deep expertise in reactive equipment and high-voltage station systems.

Overview
This role provides advanced engineering support for medium-complexity power system projects, with a strong focus on reactive equipment, high-voltage apparatus, troubleshooting, and technical analysis. The Engineer develops solutions, supports field operations, resolves complex design issues, and contributes to standards and engineering best practices.

Contract: 1 year

Key Responsibilities
• Develop engineering designs and resolve technical challenges for medium-complexity power system projects.
• Conduct independent engineering studies, analyses, and field investigations.
• Propose plan and cost modifications, prepare progress reports, and support project controls.
• Resolve highly technical and unusual equipment or design issues.
• Support field operations staff with troubleshooting equipment failure.
• Analyze inspection, diagnostic, commissioning, and acceptance test results to guide decisions and recommendations.
• Contribute to engineering standards and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary stakeholders across engineering, construction, and operations.
• Conduct site visits 4–5 times per year.

Must Haves

• Experience in reactive equipment area include HV power transformers/GSU, shunt reactors, CVT/VT/PT, CTs and station service transformers.
• Must be able to provide technical support to field operation staff with troubleshooting equipment failure.
• Must have demonstrated ability to perform analysis on inspection/diagnostic/commissioning/acceptance test results to guide decisions & recommendations.
• Knowledge of power system equipment (i.e. Surge arresters, ACDC Station service equipment, Switchgear/circuit breaker and disconnect switch)

Assets

• Experience in power system maintenance, installation, or testing/commissioning of stations equipment are considered assets.
• Experience in power system design, maintenance, installation, or testing/commissioning of stations equipment are considered assets.
• Key aspects of the switchgear equipment area include MV and HV circuit breakers up to 550kV, HV GIS/GIB, metal clad switchgear, circuit switchers, disconnect switches, station service switchgear and station surge arresters.
• Key aspects of the reactive equipment area include HV power transformers/GSU, shunt reactors, CVT/VT/PT, CTs and station service transformers.
• NETA – International Electrical Testing Association certification.
