MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Junior Designer / EIT on behalf of a well-established Richmond-based engineering firm supporting major utility clients across BC.

Responsibilities

• Prepare electrical distribution design packages for pole renewals, line extensions, underground conversions, and system improvements in accordance with BC Hydro standards.
• Perform structural analysis using SPIDAcalc, including pole loading, guying, and framing for tangent and angle structures.
• Develop construction-ready drawings and coordinate with drafting teams.
• Liaise with municipalities, MoTI, railway, and pipeline stakeholders to obtain required permits and approvals.
• Address field inquiries and clarify design intent during construction.
• Maintain accurate documentation in alignment with client and internal quality standards.
• Collaborate with Project Managers and Engineers to meet schedule, budget, and deliverable requirements.
• Support ongoing professional development toward P.Eng. registration.

Qualifications
Required:

• 3–4 years of overhead distribution design experience.
• Strong analytical and technical skills in utility design tools.
• Ability to manage multiple external stakeholders and approvals.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
• Detail-oriented and proactive approach to project delivery.

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical preferred).
• Registered as an EIT with EGBC or eligible.
• Direct experience with BC Hydro overhead design standards.
• SPIDAcalc and/or PLS-CADD experience.
• Familiarity with BC Hydro processes and permitting requirements.
• Based in Metro Vancouver.
