MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Reactive Equipment Electrical Engineer with substation experience to work on a 1-year contract with high renewal potential for our client, one of BC's largest utility and clean energy companies. This hybrid role is based in Burnaby, BC and offers the opportunity to contribute to critical substation and transmission projects across the province.

Education & Skills

• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC, or eligible for registration.

Role Specialty: Transmission – Reactive Equipment & Switchgear

• Substation design experience for voltages 12kV–500kV.

• Specialized knowledge of electrical power equipment, including specification and installation.

• Experience in reactive equipment and/or switchgear:

  • Reactive equipment: Series capacitor stations, STATCOMS, power transformers, shunt reactors, instrument transformers.

  • Switchgear: HV circuit breakers (up to 550kV), HV & MV GIS, metal-clad switchgear, circuit switchers, disconnect switches, fused cutouts, station service switchgear, station surge arresters.

Additional Skills

• Ability to provide technical direction to junior engineers.

• Manage design tasks including scope, schedule, and cost.

• Communicate efficiently, both verbally and in technical writing.

• Project management experience, including estimating, cost control, and project administration.
