MatchBox Consulting Group is recruiting on behalf of its client, a professional engineering firm specializing in building envelope and energy-efficient design across the residential and commercial construction industry.

The successful candidate will join the Energy Team and contribute to projects involving energy modelling for new buildings and energy audits of existing structures. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced mechanical engineers and professional engineers while developing expertise in energy performance analysis, building systems, and sustainable construction practices.

This position is well suited to a Mechanical Engineer or Engineer-in-Training who enjoys combining analytical work with practical field exposure and collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute energy modelling for residential, commercial, and institutional buildings using recognized simulation tools

• Perform energy audits and commissioning of building energy systems during design, construction, and renovation phases

• Conduct thermal bridging and thermal performance analysis for building envelope and mechanical systems

• Review building mechanical systems during field reviews, energy audits, and commissioning activities

• Communicate and coordinate with project stakeholders including developers, architects, designers, and contractors

• Support preparation of technical reports, modelling documentation, and design correspondence

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

• Registered or eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with EGBC

• Minimum 2 years of experience with IES-VE or similar hourly energy simulation software

• Experience reviewing building mechanical systems in the field, including energy audits, field reviews, or HVAC commissioning

• Good understanding of building codes, energy modelling guidelines, construction methods, materials, and detailed drawings

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

Assets

• P.Eng. designation

• Experience working on both new construction and building retrofit projects

• Familiarity with building envelope performance and integrated building energy systems
