MatchBox Consulting Group is recruiting on behalf of its client for a Distribution Engineer to support capital infrastructure projects within an electrical utility environment.

This position is well suited to an experienced electrical engineer with a strong background in utility distribution systems who enjoys applying engineering judgement, solving technical challenges, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe and reliable infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering support for capital infrastructure projects involving overhead and underground electric distribution systems operating at or below 35 kV

• Develop engineering designs, analyze system performance, and interpret technical specifications to support project delivery

• Perform distribution system analysis using industry tools to evaluate circuit capacity, load connections, voltage profiles, phase balancing, and conductor sizing

• Conduct fault current and protection coordination studies to determine appropriate protection device settings including fuses, reclosers, switchgear, capacitor banks, and voltage regulators

• Perform thermal analysis of cable systems and duct banks to assess ampacity and operating limits

• Conduct pole line and structural analysis for overhead distribution infrastructure using specialized engineering tools

• Prepare engineering deliverables as Professional of Record for engineered solutions and review engineering work completed by consultants or external engineering partners

• Review customer electrical consultant submissions for primary voltage services to ensure compliance with utility requirements, including protection coordination, switchgear design, and grounding systems

• Provide technical guidance and engineering support to internal teams including planning, project delivery, standards, and field operations

• Investigate and resolve technical issues affecting distribution system operation, maintenance, expansion, or replacement projects

• Support project teams in meeting safety, cost, quality, and schedule objectives through engineering recommendations and technical coordination

Requirements

• Degree in Electrical Engineering recognized by universities in Canada; Power Engineering preferred

• Minimum 8 years of experience in a relevant engineering field or equivalent

• Registered P.Eng. with EGBC

• Valid EGBC Permit to Practice

• Active Basic First Aid certification

• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

• Experience working with overhead and underground distribution networks operating at or below 35 kV

• Strong knowledge of distribution system design, planning, protection coordination, and system engineering principles

• Experience performing electrical system analysis using industry software tools

• Familiarity with CAD systems, drawing standards, and standard engineering analysis tools

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

• Ability to investigate and resolve complex engineering issues using sound engineering judgement.

• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and willingness to travel for occasional field reviews or site visits
