Matchbox Consulting Group is partnering with a well-established building science and engineering consultancy specializing in energy-efficient design and building performance across residential, commercial, and institutional projects. With a strong reputation and decades of sustained growth, this firm is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer (P.Eng.) to join their Energy Team.

This opportunity is best suited for a senior-level engineer (5–10+ years of experience) with a strong background in energy modelling, building systems, and project delivery, who is looking to take on both technical leadership and project coordination responsibilities.

The Role

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will lead and execute energy modelling and building performance analysis across a diverse portfolio of new construction and retrofit projects. You will work closely with internal engineering teams and external stakeholders, contributing to both technical delivery and project management while supporting the development of junior staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute and oversee energy modelling for residential, commercial, and institutional buildings

• Perform and review thermal bridging and building envelope performance analysis

• Conduct energy audits and support commissioning of mechanical systems during design and construction phases

• Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and energy modelling requirements

• Coordinate with developers, architects, consultants, and contractors throughout project lifecycles

• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and team members

• Support project planning, scheduling, and resource coordination

Qualifications & Experience

• P.Eng. designation in Mechanical Engineering (required)

• 5–10+ years of experience in energy modelling and building energy systems

• Strong proficiency with IES-VE or similar hourly energy simulation software

• Hands-on field experience with HVAC systems, including field reviews and commissioning

• In-depth knowledge of local building codes, energy modelling standards, and construction methods

• Strong understanding of building envelope performance and integrated building systems

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
