MatchBox Consulting Group is currently seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator on behalf of our client, a major industrial manufacturing organization operating a large-scale cement production facility in Exshaw, AB.
This role is a key part of the site's senior leadership team and plays a central part in driving a strong, proactive safety culture across all plant operations. If you're someone who leads by influence, earns credibility on the floor, and genuinely believes safety is built – not enforced – this one's worth a look.
The position is fully on-site, Monday through Friday, at the Exshaw facility. Candidates should be comfortable with the commute from Calgary or the surrounding area.
Key Responsibilities
Site Safety Leadership
- Serve as the on-site HSE presence, providing visible coaching and mentorship to frontline employees and management alike.
- Champion a safety culture built on buy-in and trust – influencing behavior rather than relying on authority.
- Oversee the implementation and continuous improvement of health and safety programs aligned with the site's HSE Management System.
Training & Communication
- Develop and deliver safety training modules, site orientations, and toolbox talks tailored to an industrial plant environment.
- Coach management and employees on applicable provincial OH&S legislation and internal safety standards.
Incident Management & Compliance
- Lead workplace incident investigations and support corrective action follow-through.
- Manage WCB paperwork and support claims management in coordination with operations.
- Conduct COR and internal HSE audits; maintain safety documentation across platforms, including Intelex, iCare, and Avetta.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with the plant management team and the broader Canadian Cement HSE group to align on programs, priorities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Adapt day-to-day priorities to support a dynamic, high-activity industrial environment.
Qualifications
Education
- Post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree — preferably in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field.
Certifications
- NCSO or CSO required; CRSP strongly preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of HSE experience in a manufacturing, industrial, oil & gas, or mining environment.
- Trades background with supervisory experience is a strong asset — candidates who have come up through the tools and transitioned into safety often thrive in this environment.
Skills & Attributes
- Proven ability to influence without authority and build genuine credibility with a trades workforce.
- Strong interpersonal skills — adaptable, approachable, and effective across varying personalities and seniority levels.
- Solid knowledge of Alberta OH&S legislation and regulations.
- Proficient in MS Office and Google Suite.
- Valid driver's license required.
What's on Offer
- Competitive Base Salary
- Bonus: Annual performance bonus of 0–24% of base, plus merit increase of 2–5%
- Benefits: Comprehensive Sun Life coverage for you and your dependents, effective immediately
- Vacation: Starting at 3 weeks; 4 weeks negotiable for experienced candidates
- RRSP: Company-matched contributions
- Stock Purchase Plan: Available at an employee discount
- Growth: Real opportunity to grow into operational or senior HSE leadership as the team expands its Western Canada scope
Additional Requirements
- Comfortable with a Monday–Friday on-site schedule in Exshaw, AB
- Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and criminal record check required
- Respirator use may be required; clean-shaven fit where applicable per safety standards
