MatchBox Consulting Group is recruiting for a Telecom Engineer (Engineer – E4) to support complex infrastructure projects in a hybrid environment based in Burnaby.
This role focuses on telecommunications system design within utility infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will contribute to engineering design, technical analysis, and project delivery while ensuring safety, quality, and compliance across medium-complexity assignments.
This position is well suited to a technically strong engineer with experience in telecommunications systems, particularly microwave networks, who enjoys working across multidisciplinary teams and contributing to both design and project execution.
Responsibilities
- Develop safe and effective engineering solutions for telecommunications systems on infrastructure projects
- Perform design, analysis, and troubleshooting for medium-complexity engineering assignments
- Support project teams in meeting safety, quality, cost, and schedule objectives
- Prepare and review technical documentation, reports, and engineering deliverables
- Contribute to project planning, scheduling, and progress reporting
- Participate in technical reviews and contribute to the development of engineering standards
- Provide input into design decisions, methods, and system improvements
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to support project delivery
- Support site visits and field reviews as required
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with EGBC
- Minimum 8+ years of experience in telecommunications system design and engineering
- Strong experience with point-to-point microwave networks, including frequency planning, link budget calculations, site selection, and path surveys
- Experience developing and applying engineering standards and conducting technical design reviews
- Familiarity with CAD systems and industry-standard design/analysis tools
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and technical writing ability
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
- Self-starter with a proactive approach to professional development
Assets
- Knowledge of IP networking and MPLS technologies
- Experience with microwave and OTN transport equipment
- Understanding of project and task management processes
- Experience working within utility or infrastructure environments
Additional Information
- Hybrid work model (Burnaby-based, with in-office requirements)
- Occasional site visits required during project periods
- This is a safety-sensitive role, requiring compliance with applicable safety requirements
- Valid Permit to Practice with EGBC is required prior to start
