Construction Manager

Location: Travel Throughout British Columbia
Duration: 12-Month Contract
Positions Available: 2

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking experienced Construction Managers to support one of British Columbia's largest utility providers on critical transmission, distribution, maintenance, and infrastructure programs across the province.

This role is ideal for construction professionals with strong utility, transmission, distribution, maintenance, or field operations experience who are comfortable working in both office and field environments. Successful candidates will provide construction leadership, contractor oversight, program coordination, safety management, and stakeholder engagement across a variety of capital and maintenance initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee large, complex construction and maintenance projects.
  • Coordinate the allocation of materials, financial resources, contractors, and field personnel.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality requirements.
  • Monitor contractor performance and support contract administration activities.
  • Conduct field inspections, audits, and quality assurance reviews.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation plans related to safety, environmental, operational, and stakeholder considerations.
  • Support outage management, maintenance planning, and field operations activities.
  • Coordinate inspections, condition assessments, and repair programs.
  • Review completed work packages, contractor deliverables, invoices, and project documentation.
  • Conduct Safe Work Observations and support continuous safety improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, contractors, Indigenous communities, and field operations teams.
  • Provide construction expertise and technical guidance to project and program teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, relevant trades certification, business, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 9 years of construction management, project management, or utility field operations experience.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies, estimating, contract management, and field execution.
  • Experience managing contractors, work crews, and field-based programs.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and leadership skills.
  • Strong understanding of occupational health and safety requirements and safe work practices.
  • Experience overseeing worksite safety and field operations.
  • Advanced English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a safe driving record.
  • Access to a personal vehicle suitable for travel to field locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Utility, transmission, distribution, or outage management experience.
  • Experience coordinating, supporting, or supervising Power Line Technician (PLT) crews.
  • Experience developing new programs, conducting vendor audits, and preparing operational reports.
  • Familiarity with transmission maintenance programs, inspections, condition-based repairs, and contractor management.
  • Experience supporting field-based operations in remote or challenging environments.

Working Conditions

  • Extensive travel throughout British Columbia.
  • Field-based work in remote, rugged, and outdoor environments.
  • May require walking, hiking, boat access, helicopter transportation, and independent field work.
