Construction Officer

Location: Lower Mainland, BC (Hybrid/ Field-Based)
Duration: 12-Month Contract

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking an experienced Construction Officer to support one of British Columbia's largest utility providers. This is an excellent opportunity for a construction professional with experience in electrical distribution and transmission projects who enjoys working in the field, coordinating construction activities, and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

This is a field-based position requiring travel throughout Metro Vancouver. Between field assignments, the successful candidate will work from the Burnaby office to support project planning and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and inspect construction activities on electrical distribution and transmission projects.

• Monitor construction progress to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards.

• Perform site inspections and Safe Work Observations to promote a strong safety culture.

• Coordinate site testing, surveying, estimating, and construction activities.

• Review engineering drawings and specifications to support project execution.

• Collaborate with contractors, project teams, and stakeholders to resolve field issues and maintain project progress.

• Support contract administration and work order activities throughout the construction lifecycle.

• Provide technical guidance and recommendations on construction-related issues.

• Maintain strong communication with internal teams, contractors, and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Technology, a related trades certification, or equivalent experience.

• Minimum 7 years of construction experience.

• Experience with electrical distribution and/or transmission construction or maintenance.

• Strong understanding of construction methods, engineering drawings, and field inspection practices.

• Excellent knowledge of occupational health and safety standards and regulations.

• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

• Valid Class 5 Driver's License.

• Personal vehicle available for work-related travel throughout Metro Vancouver.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing Requests for Proposals (RFPs).

• Experience working on large infrastructure or utility projects.

• Contract administration experience.

Work Environment

• Field-based role with travel throughout the Lower Mainland.

• Office-based work in Burnaby between field assignments for planning and collaboration.
