Our Burnaby, BC based client is seeking a AWS Developer for an 8-month contract opportunity. 

AWS Developer – Cloud Migration (Guidewire)
Contract: 8 Months
Location: Burnaby, BC
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 3 days onsite (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and 2 days remote (Monday, Friday)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced AWS Developer to support a strategic Guidewire Cloud Migration initiative. The successful candidate will play a key role in establishing a new AWS environment and developing cloud-native solutions that support the migration of Guidewire applications and related integrations to AWS.

Working as part of a cross-functional Agile team, you will collaborate with Solution Architects, Guidewire Developers, DevOps Engineers, QA Analysts, Infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to design, develop, deploy, and support scalable, secure, and resilient cloud solutions. This role will focus on building foundational AWS infrastructure, implementing serverless components, supporting application integrations, and enabling the successful migration of Guidewire workloads to the cloud.

Key Responsibilities

This position may include, but is not limited to:

  • Participate in the design, implementation, and support of AWS cloud solutions for a Guidewire Cloud Migration program.
  • Assist with the setup and configuration of a new AWS environment, including foundational cloud services, networking, security, and governance.
  • Design, develop, and maintain AWS Lambda functions supporting Guidewire integrations and business services.
  • Develop RESTful APIs using Amazon API Gateway and integrate them with Guidewire applications and enterprise systems.
  • Build event-driven solutions using AWS services such as EventBridge, SQS, and SNS.
  • Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using AWS CloudFormation, AWS CDK, or Terraform to automate cloud resource provisioning.
  • Configure and manage AWS services including IAM, S3, CloudWatch, DynamoDB, RDS, Secrets Manager, Systems Manager, and other supporting services.
  • Collaborate with Guidewire developers and integration teams to migrate application services and interfaces to AWS.
  • Support the migration of existing integrations, APIs, and backend services to cloud-native architectures.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated build, testing, and deployment of cloud applications.
  • Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational dashboards using AWS CloudWatch and related tools.
  • Troubleshoot cloud infrastructure, application, and integration issues throughout the migration lifecycle.
  • Ensure cloud solutions meet enterprise security, scalability, availability, and compliance requirements.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Produce technical documentation, deployment guides, architecture diagrams, and operational runbooks.
  • Provide post-deployment support and assist with production issue resolution.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of software development experience with at least 3 years of hands-on AWS development experience.
  • Experience supporting cloud migration or modernization initiatives for enterprise applications.
  • Strong experience developing serverless applications using AWS Lambda.
  • Experience building RESTful APIs using Amazon API Gateway.
  • Hands-on experience with core AWS services, including:
    • AWS Lambda
    • IAM
    • Amazon S3
    • Amazon CloudWatch
    • Amazon EventBridge
    • Amazon SQS
    • Amazon SNS
    • Amazon RDS
    • Amazon DynamoDB
    • AWS Secrets Manager
    • AWS Systems Manager
  • Experience developing Infrastructure as Code using CloudFormation, AWS CDK, or Terraform.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines using AWS CodePipeline, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or similar tools.
  • Strong programming skills in one or more of the following:
    • Java
    • Python
    • Node.js
    • C#
  • Experience with Git source control and Agile software development methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of AWS networking, security, identity management, and cloud architecture best practices.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on Guidewire PolicyCenter, BillingCenter, ClaimCenter, or Guidewire Cloud Platform projects.
  • Experience integrating Guidewire applications with external systems using APIs, messaging services, or event-driven architectures.
  • Experience supporting enterprise cloud migration initiatives within the insurance industry.
  • AWS Certified Developer – Associate or AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate certification.
  • Experience with container technologies such as Docker, Amazon ECS, or Amazon EKS.
  • Knowledge of DevSecOps practices and cloud security frameworks.
  • Experience with automated testing and deployment pipelines.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as CloudWatch, X-Ray, Grafana, or Datadog.

Preferred Skills
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong understanding of cloud-native application design and serverless architecture.
  • Experience working within large enterprise cloud transformation programs.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Guidewire, DevOps, QA, Infrastructure, and Architecture teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced Agile environment.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement and delivering high-quality cloud solutions.
