MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Safety Advisor to join our client, a well-established Canadian utility contractor, to support operations across Alberta. This field-based role is ideal for a safety professional who enjoys working closely with project teams, building strong safety cultures, and ensuring compliance across active construction sites.

Responsibilities

• Support field operations by promoting a proactive safety culture across multiple projects.
• Conduct site inspections, field visits, and safety observations while providing coaching to supervisors and crews.
• Lead incident investigations, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Develop site-specific safety documentation including emergency response plans, safe work procedures, and hazard assessments.
• Coordinate employee orientations, competency assessments, and ongoing training requirements.
• Monitor safety documentation and ensure regulatory and client compliance.
• Support COR audits, internal inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Attend project meetings, safety committees, and operational planning sessions.
• Maintain safety records, reports, and documentation using digital safety management systems.
• Assist with PPE inventory management and procurement.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of construction safety experience.
• National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation required.
• Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Studies, or a related discipline.
• CRSP designation considered a strong asset.
• Experience within utilities, powerline, heavy civil, or industrial construction is preferred.
• Strong understanding of provincial health and safety legislation and industry best practices.
• Experience conducting field inspections, incident investigations, and COR audits.
• Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital safety management platforms.
• Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
