We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join their growing team. This role is well suited to a construction professional with a strong background in underground utilities and heavy civil construction who can lead projects from pre-construction through closeout while working closely with field operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead civil construction projects from pre-construction through project closeout.
- Manage project controls, including cost management, forecasting, contingency planning, and profitability.
- Conduct monthly project cost reviews and forecasts with senior leadership.
- Provide technical input during pre-construction, planning, and estimating activities.
- Coordinate project teams, including estimators, superintendents, foremen, subcontractors, consultants, and suppliers.
- Review and administer construction contracts, working with legal counsel and internal departments as required.
- Lead procurement activities, including negotiations with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Ensure all project startup requirements, permits, licenses, documentation, and resources are in place.
- Develop and maintain project schedules in collaboration with the project team.
- Manage manpower, equipment, materials, and other project resources within budgetary constraints.
- Work closely with site teams to identify and resolve construction, quality, schedule, and operational issues.
- Manage change orders, extra work, claims, and other commercial requirements.
- Maintain strong client, owner, consultant, and stakeholder relationships.
- Lead project meetings and attend site meetings as required.
- Manage project risk registers and ensure appropriate mitigation strategies are implemented.
- Monitor project safety, quality, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Support timely progress billing and receivables collection.
- Lead project closeout, including final contract documentation and resolution of outstanding claims.
- Lead project debriefs to identify lessons learned and opportunities for improvement.
- Promote a culture aligned with safety, quality, integrity, sustainability, and project success.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- 10+ years of experience in civil construction, with experience across infrastructure projects.
- Strong project management experience within underground utilities, earthworks, roadbuilding, excavation, shoring, and/or heavy civil construction.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects through the full lifecycle, from pre-construction to closeout.
- Strong understanding of project financial controls, forecasting, change management, contracts, and risk.
- Proven ability to lead project teams and work effectively with field operations.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong client and stakeholder relationship management abilities.
- Ability to analyze project issues and develop practical solutions.
- Experience working in a unionized construction environment is an asset.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
