ABOUT THE ROLE

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Civil Estimator to join our client’s Industrial Division in Edmonton, Alberta.

This is an opportunity for an experienced estimator with a strong civil construction background, particularly in earthworks, foundations, concrete structures, and site civil, to work on major industrial projects across Western Canada.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing competitive estimates, reviewing tender documents, coordinating subcontractor pricing, identifying project risks and opportunities, and supporting projects through the pursuit and award process.

WHAT YOU WILL BE WORKING ON

• Prepare detailed price estimates and budgets, identifying project constraints, risks, and opportunities.
• Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, scopes, and subcontractor requirements.
• Perform quantity takeoffs and develop accurate project pricing.
• Solicit, evaluate, and compile pricing from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Develop preliminary construction schedules and execution plans to support estimating.
• Conduct detailed specification and estimate reviews to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Collaborate with operations, superintendents, project managers, and other construction personnel to establish practical construction approaches.
• Lead pricing activities and tender submissions for assigned projects.
• Respond to post-tender clarifications and support negotiations through contract award.
• Participate in project kick-off meetings and transfer estimating knowledge to the project team.
• Support business development and other project securement initiatives.
• Complete 3D takeoffs using CAD-based software where required.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• 5+ years of dedicated estimating experience, ideally 7+ years.
• Strong civil estimating experience, specifically involving:
  • Earthworks and earthmoving
  • Concrete
  • Foundations
  • Concrete structures
  • Site civil
• Experience estimating industrial, heavy civil, or major infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with large-scale industrial construction environments such as:
  • Petrochemical and industrial facilities
  • Potash/mining projects
  • LNG and energy projects
  • Major site development and civil packages
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, specifications, and contract documents.
• Strong understanding of estimating techniques, cost development, competitive pricing, and risk identification.
• Ability to analyze subcontractor and supplier quotations and develop a complete tender price.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal operations teams.
• Engineering or relevant technical education such as EIT, P.Eng., or CET is an asset; Civil specialization is preferred.
• Previous field/site construction experience in civil work is an asset.
• Ability to perform 3D takeoffs using CAD software.
• Autodesk Civil 3D or Carlson Takeoff experience is an asset.
• Experience with InEight, HeavyBid, Bid2Win, or comparable estimating/bidding software is an asset.
• Must be able to work from the Edmonton area.
