British Columbia Labour Force Statistics: April 2025 Unemployment Rate and Employment Trends

The unemployment rate in British Columbia was 6.2% in April 2025, up 0.1 percentage points from one month prior. Compared to March, employment rose by 6,000, while the labour force grew by 9,900. The province saw a gain of 15,900 full-time jobs but lost 9,800 part-time positions. Employment rose for both public (+1,600) and private (+1,600) sector works, as the number of self-employed workers (+2,800) also increased. Over the past year, the unemployment rate rose by 1.2 percentage points. The labour force grew by 52,300, while employment increased by 14,300. Full-time employment increased by 21,700 whereas part-time employment fell by 7,300.

At 6.2%, British Columbia had the fourth-lowest unemployment rate in Canada in April. Saskatchewan (4.3%) had the lowest rate followed by Manitoba (5.3%), and Quebec (6.0%). Prince Edward Island followed in fifth place at 6.6%, with New Brunswick (6.9%), Alberta (7.1%), Nova Scotia (7.2%), Ontario (7.8%), and Newfoundland and Labrador (9.6%) following behind.
