British Columbia Labour Force Statistics: June2025 Unemployment Rate and Employment Trends

The unemployment rate in British Columbia decreased to 5.6% in June 2025, down 0.8 percentage points from one month prior. Compared to May, employment rose by 5,000, while the labour force fell by 21,600, causing the decrease in the unemployment rate. The province saw a gain of 21,300 part-time jobs but lost 16,300 full-time positions. While employment rose for public sector workers (+5,300), and the self-employed (+5,200), it decreased in the private sector (-5,600). Over the past year, the unemployment rate rose by 0.2 percentage points. The labour force grew by 58,600 while employment increased by 48,100. Full-time employment increased by 24,200, while part-time employment grew by 24,000.

At 5.6%, British Columbia had the third-lowest unemployment rate in Canada in June. Saskatchewan had the lowest rate at 4.9%, followed by Manitoba at 5.5%. Quebec followed in fourth place at 6.3%, with Nova Scotia (6.7%), Alberta (6.0%), New Brunswick (7.3%), Ontario (8.0%), Prince Edward Island (8.6%), and Newfound and Labrador (9.9%) following behind.
