MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Building Operations Assistant to join a reputable property management firm with a diverse portfolio of commercial buildings across New Westminster.

This position offers an opportunity to work alongside an experienced Building Operator, supporting the day-to-day operations and maintenance of well-maintained properties. You’ll take on a variety of hands-on tasks, including HVAC upkeep, light construction, painting, and tenant service requests, all while helping ensure smooth, efficient building performance.

Responsibilities

• Support the Building Operator with day-to-day building operations and maintenance across multiple commercial sites.
• Respond to tenant service requests and assist with troubleshooting issues related to HVAC, lighting, and plumbing.
• Perform general maintenance tasks including:
  • Painting (interior and exterior)
  • Pressure washing and snow removal
  • Light HVAC maintenance (filter changes, belt replacements, coil cleaning)
  • Lighting replacements and fixture repairs
  • Weeding and exterior upkeep
• Assist with minor construction and tenant improvement projects such as demolition, concrete patching, and site cleanup.
• Provide coverage for the Building Operator during vacations or leaves.
• Participate in on-call rotation and respond to emergency maintenance calls as required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in building maintenance, facilities operations, or handyman work.
• Proficient with hand and power tools; able to perform a range of light maintenance and repair tasks.
• Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, or electrical systems (formal training an asset).
• Experience working in commercial or mixed-use buildings preferred.
• Valid BC Driver’s Licence with ability to travel between Downtown Vancouver and New Westminster sites.
• Dependable, safety-conscious, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
• Secondary school education or equivalent required; trade or technical training considered an asset.
