Business Development Manager – Construction & Development

Vancouver, BC | Full-Time | In-Office

MatchBox Consulting Group is working with a well-established Vancouver-based construction and development organization to recruit a Business Development Manager for a newly created role. This position is ideal for a seasoned industry professional who understands how development really works in Metro Vancouver and enjoys building long-term relationships across the development ecosystem.

This role sits at the intersection of construction, development, and sales and will play a meaningful part in shaping the company’s next phase of growth.

The Opportunity

This is a senior, relationship-driven role with direct exposure to executive leadership. Historically, much of this work sat at the CEO level; it is now being formalized into a dedicated business development function. The successful candidate will have real autonomy and influence.

The organization is open to experienced “heavy hitters” as well as established professionals who bring credibility, judgment, and strong market awareness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with developers who subcontract construction work (non self-performing groups).

  • Track and monitor RFP opportunities, including public-sector and affordable housing work (e.g., BC Housing and similar bodies), with oversight of an external RFP consultancy.

  • Maintain a business-development lens on potential property acquisition opportunities, flagging sites that may be of interest.

  • Represent the company in the market through networking, meetings, and industry engagement.

  • Monitor market activity, development trends, and competitor movement.

  • Work closely with senior leadership to align business development efforts with broader company strategy.

Ideal Background

  • Strong construction background, ideally paired with sales or business development experience.

  • Solid understanding of Vancouver’s development and construction landscape.

  • Existing industry relationships are an asset, but not mandatory.

  • Comfortable operating at a senior level with developers, consultants, and internal leadership.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to spot opportunity and act on it.

Qualifications

  • 8–10+ years of experience in business development, sales, construction, development, or a closely related field.

  • Post-secondary education in Business, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.

  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and negotiation skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and comfort working independently.

  • Proficiency with CRM tools and reporting is an asset.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $90,000 – $125,000 (depending on experience)

  • Commission / incentive compensation

  • Full benefits package

  • Casual office environment

  • On-site parking and gym

  • Monday–Friday schedule (occasional evenings or events as needed)

Timing

  • Interviews available immediately

  • Start date as soon as next week for the right candidate

If you are a Vancouver construction industry veteran who enjoys the business side of development and wants a senior, visible role with real influence, this is a compelling opportunity.
