MatchBox Consulting Group is recruiting on behalf of a reputable and growing General Contractor seeking a Chief Estimator to lead its estimating department in Vancouver.

This is a leadership opportunity for an experienced construction professional who thrives on mentoring teams, developing winning bid strategies, and overseeing estimates on complex commercial, institutional, mixed-use, and industrial projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in securing new work, improving estimating processes, and helping drive the company’s continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the estimating team, providing mentorship, guidance, and technical expertise.
• Oversee the preparation of conceptual, schematic, design-development, and tender estimates.
• Develop bid strategies and ensure competitive, accurate, and comprehensive submissions.
• Review drawings, specifications, contracts, and project requirements to identify risks and opportunities.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and clients.
• Participate in project pursuits, presentations, and preconstruction meetings.
• Support value engineering initiatives and provide alternative costing solutions.
• Monitor market trends, labour conditions, and material pricing to ensure accurate forecasting.
• Collaborate closely with operations and project teams to support successful project execution.
• Implement and refine estimating standards, procedures, and best practices.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of estimating experience within the construction industry.
• Previous experience working for a General Contractor on commercial, institutional, industrial, or mixed-use projects.
• Leadership experience managing or mentoring estimators and preconstruction teams.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, contracts, procurement, and project delivery models.
• Proven experience preparing and reviewing estimates on projects ranging from $20M to $200M+.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Strong knowledge of subcontractor markets throughout British Columbia.
• Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Degree, diploma, or trade background related to construction is considered an asset.
