The Opportunity

Our client is seeking a Civil Design Drafter to join their Edmonton, AB office and support a multidisciplinary team delivering professional engineering and design services across commercial, industrial, and institutional projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for producing technical drawings throughout the project lifecycle, from conceptual planning and design through tender and construction documentation.

The role will primarily involve AutoCAD and Revit, with a focus on civil design, site development, grading, drainage, servicing, utilities, and coordination with building systems.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of civil engineering concepts, solid technical drafting abilities, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with engineers and other members of a multidisciplinary design team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare civil contract drawings, details, layouts, and sketches from conceptual design through tender and construction documentation.
  • Develop drawings related to site development, grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, servicing, roads, and related civil infrastructure.
  • Produce and modify civil drawings using AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Interpret engineering concepts, design requirements, survey information, and project specifications and translate them into accurate technical drawings.
  • Coordinate civil drawings and models with engineers, architects, mechanical/electrical disciplines, clients, consultants, and contractors.
  • Maintain organized project drawing files, CAD/Revit models, and digital project databases.
  • Apply company CAD/Revit standards and project-specific QA/QC procedures.
  • Create and modify Revit families and custom components where required.
  • Communicate with engineers and other team members throughout the Revit model and drawing production process.
  • Review drawings and graphic deliverables for accuracy, consistency, constructability, and completeness.
  • Conduct field verification and measurements and accurately transfer site information into project drawings.
  • Participate in site observations and inspection activities during design and construction phases.
  • Assist with tender and construction administration, including reviewing submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs.
  • Coordinate project requirements with clients and multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Manage drafting priorities and deliverables to meet project schedules.
  • Stay current with new products, technologies, design processes, and drafting techniques.

Required Qualifications

  • Technical diploma or related post-secondary education in Civil Engineering Technology, Civil Design, Drafting, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Strong experience using AutoCAD in the preparation, drafting, and design of engineering drawings.
  • Experience with Revit in a multidisciplinary engineering or design environment.
  • Experience producing civil engineering drawings for site development, grading, drainage, utilities, servicing, roads, or related infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering and site development principles.
  • Ability to interpret civil engineering plans, survey information, specifications, and design requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and technical drafting accuracy.
  • Knowledge of applicable Canadian design standards, codes, and requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and share workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability and willingness to conduct site travel.
  • ASET registration is an asset.

Asset Qualifications

  • Design experience involving HVAC, plumbing and piping, fire protection, controls, and building systems.
  • Experience coordinating civil design with mechanical, electrical, architectural, and other building disciplines.
  • Experience with Civil 3D or other civil design software.
  • Experience with civil site development and municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Experience developing grading and drainage plans.
  • Experience with underground utility and servicing design.
  • Experience with roads, access, parking, and site layout design.
  • Experience working with survey information and field measurements.
  • Experience supporting tendering and construction administration.
  • Experience creating and modifying Revit families and managing Revit file structures.
