About the Opportunity
MatchBox Consulting Group is conducting a confidential search on behalf of a well-established heavy civil contractor throughout British Columbia.
Our client is seeking an experienced Estimating Manager to lead its estimating function in the Vancouver office. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior estimating professional who enjoys mentoring teams, driving bid strategy, and partnering with executive leadership on high-value infrastructure pursuits.
This is a leadership position best suited to someone who combines strong technical estimating expertise with the ability to build processes, develop people, and influence project strategy.
The Role
As the Estimating Manager, you will oversee the estimating department and be responsible for the successful delivery of competitive tenders across a diverse portfolio of heavy civil infrastructure projects.
Working closely with senior leadership and operations, you'll establish bid strategies, allocate estimating resources, review risk, and ensure consistency and accuracy throughout the estimating process. You'll also play an important role in developing junior estimators and continuously improving estimating standards and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of estimators through all stages of the bid process.
- Oversee bid planning, resource allocation, schedules, and proposal execution.
- Establish estimating strategies that align with company objectives and project opportunities.
- Review estimates for completeness, accuracy, constructability, and commercial risk.
- Partner with Operations to validate construction methodologies, sequencing, and pricing assumptions.
- Lead estimate review meetings and executive bid presentations.
- Evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing while developing key industry relationships.
- Identify project risks and develop pricing strategies and contingency plans.
- Drive continuous improvement of estimating procedures, templates, and best practices.
- Support business development initiatives by evaluating new opportunities and market trends.
- Participate in post-bid reviews and project handovers to ensure knowledge transfer to operations.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture within the estimating team.
Qualifications
- 15+ years of heavy civil estimating experience, including leadership or management responsibilities.
- Demonstrated success leading estimates for major infrastructure or civil construction projects.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies, contract delivery models, and procurement strategies.
- Experience reviewing complex tender documents, specifications, and contractual requirements.
- Proven leadership skills with experience mentoring and developing estimating teams.
- Advanced proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Professional designation (P.Eng., PMP, or equivalent) is considered an asset.
