MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Civil Municipal Engineer on behalf of our client for their Municipal Infrastructure team in Calgary.

This role will support complex municipal infrastructure projects involving water, sanitary sewer, stormwater, grading, and underground infrastructure. The successful candidate will be a registered Professional Engineer with strong municipal civil engineering experience who can take ownership of project work, support less experienced team members, and contribute across design, tendering, contract administration, and construction.

This is a strong opportunity for an experienced engineer who wants exposure to a variety of municipal infrastructure projects while continuing to develop toward technical leadership, project management, client management, or a combination of these areas.

Location: Calgary, AB
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Schedule: Hybrid. Five days per week in the office for the first three months, transitioning to approximately two days per week in the office afterward.

Responsibilities

• Act as Engineer of Record for designs, technical reports, cost estimates, technical specifications, and construction contract documents.

• Lead and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams from project concept through design and construction.

• Complete engineering work related to water transmission, sanitary sewer collection, stormwater drainage, grading, and underground municipal infrastructure.

• Prepare studies, designs, cost estimates, specifications, tender packages, and contract documents.

• Support tendering, constructability assessments, contract administration, construction management, and inspection activities.

• Perform Quality Assurance and Quality Control reviews on project deliverables.

• Apply relevant municipal, provincial, and industry standards, specifications, regulations, and guidelines.

• Mentor and coach engineers and technologists on technical work and project management processes.

• Work directly on projects while helping support the development of less experienced team members.

Qualifications

Must-Haves

• Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.

• Registered Professional Engineer with APEGA.

• Minimum 5 years of civil engineering experience, with approximately 8+ years strongly preferred.

• Experience designing and supporting construction of municipal infrastructure, including:

  • Water transmission infrastructure

  • Sanitary sewer collection systems

  • Stormwater drainage

  • Grading projects

  • Underground infrastructure

• Experience working on both brownfield and greenfield projects.

• Ability to take ownership of project work with limited training or oversight.

• Ability to mentor and support engineers and technologists.

• Knowledge and application of government and industry standards, specifications, regulations, and guidelines related to water, sanitary, and stormwater infrastructure.

• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within Alberta.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice-to-Haves

• Previous engineering consulting experience is strongly preferred.

• Municipal infrastructure experience from an owner organization may also be considered.

• Experience with City of Calgary and Alberta municipal requirements.

• Experience with alternative construction delivery methods.

• Established relationships with product vendors and third-party utility owners.

• Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
