We are working with a respected Calgary-based real estate development firm known for its legacy of building well-designed, livable communities. They are currently hiring a Community Development Manager to oversee key residential and mixed-use land development projects. This role offers the opportunity to lead complex initiatives from concept through to construction completion, collaborating with internal teams, consultants, and municipal authorities.
About the Role
As Community Development Manager, you will be responsible for the full cycle of land development activities—from planning and budgeting to securing approvals and delivering finished lots. You will work closely with consultants, engineers, and municipal partners to ensure projects stay on schedule, meet regulatory standards, and align with the company's strategic goals. This is a leadership role suited to someone with strong technical knowledge, proven project management experience, and the ability to drive collaboration across multiple disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, budgeting, and execution of residential and mixed-use land development projects
- Coordinate with consultants, builders, and internal stakeholders to meet design and construction timelines
- Manage municipal approval processes, legal subdivision, and engineering submissions
- Monitor and report on project budgets, schedules, and overall performance
- Oversee delivery of lots, shallow utilities, and show home landscaping
- Ensure compliance with all applicable bylaws, standards, and safety regulations
- Support long-term planning, land use, and outline plan amendments as needed
- Participate in consultant selection, contractor negotiations, and project financing activities
- Represent the company in builder meetings and municipal negotiations
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in land development, real estate development, or a related field
- Strong understanding of Calgary’s planning processes, municipal approvals, and development regulations
- Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng), Certified Engineering Technologist (CET), or equivalent technical background preferred
- Solid understanding of civil construction and site servicing
- Proven ability to manage external consultants and contractors
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- PMP or formal project management training considered an asset
This is a great opportunity for an experienced development professional to join a reputable firm and take ownership of high-impact community projects in the Calgary area.
