MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Construction Project Manager for a highly specialized design-build construction company delivering some of the most technically interesting timber structures in North America.
This is not a standard GC project management role. Our client combines structural engineering, fabrication, manufacturing, and construction delivery under one roof, with a focus on complex timber structures that integrate wood with steel, glass, concrete, and other materials. Their work has been recognized internationally for innovation in timber construction, and they continue to be involved in projects that push the boundaries of design, coordination, and construction execution.
This is an excellent opportunity for a PM who wants more than repetitive, box-standard construction work. You will manage projects from award through completion, working directly with internal engineering, fabrication, shop, site, and construction teams to deliver highly detailed, high-quality structures safely, on time, and on budget.
The successful candidate will be technically strong, organized, confident with contracts and change management, and comfortable being challenged. The interview process will be technical, and the team will want to understand how deeply you know project delivery, cost control, scheduling, scope management, and construction execution.
Why this role is worth a look
This is a chance to join a growing, innovative company with a strong reputation in a specialized sector of construction. You will work on unique projects, collaborate with smart technical teams, and gain exposure to design-build delivery, manufacturing coordination, and complex structural construction.
The role offers competitive compensation, strong benefits, career growth, and the opportunity to build experience in one of the most exciting areas of the construction industry: mass timber and advanced structural systems.
Responsibilities
As Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading construction projects from award through completion. This includes planning, budgeting, scheduling, procurement, subcontractor coordination, client communication, change management, and overall project delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead projects from award through closeout, ensuring safety, quality, budget, and schedule objectives are achieved
- Manage project scope, contract requirements, budgets, schedules, resources, and deliverables
- Coordinate closely with internal engineering, fabrication, manufacturing, site, and construction teams
- Prepare and manage RFQs, purchase orders, subcontracts, schedules of values, progress billing, and change orders
- Track project milestones, risks, costs, delays, and deliverables
- Manage project changes and delays to ensure proper documentation and cost recovery
- Provide regular reporting to management on project status, challenges, solutions, and financial performance
- Support quality assurance and ensure work is delivered to the required standard
- Provide occasional onsite construction support and coordinate with clients, consultants, trades, and suppliers
- Evaluate project outcomes and support continuous improvement across delivery teams
Requirements
- 3+ years of construction project management experience
- Strong understanding of construction project delivery, contracts, budgets, schedules, procurement, and change management
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Comfortable working with technical teams, clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management tools such as Procore, MS Project, or similar scheduling software
- Ability to read, understand, and manage project scope, drawings, contracts, and commercial requirements
Preferred Experience
- Post-secondary education in construction management, building science, engineering, or a related field
- PMP designation, or working toward PMP
- Experience managing construction projects valued at $5M+
- Experience with mass timber, structural steel, envelope, architectural structures, specialty construction, or design-build delivery
- Background working with technically complex projects involving engineering, fabrication, or detailed coordination
Compensation and Benefits
The expected compensation range is $90,000 to $140,000, depending on experience. The upper end of the range is intended for a more senior Project Manager with strong technical and project delivery experience.
The package also includes:
- Discretionary annual bonus, typically 8–12%
- 80/20 medical and dental benefits coverage
- 3 weeks’ vacation
- Career growth with a specialized and innovative construction company
- Occasional travel within Canada and the United States for project needs
Apply
This is a strong opportunity for a construction Project Manager who wants to work on projects with real technical depth, not just manage paperwork. If you are organized, commercially aware, technically curious, and motivated by complex construction, we would be interested in speaking with you.
