MatchBox Consulting Group is recruiting on behalf of its client for an Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer to support capital projects within a utility and energy infrastructure environment.

This position is well suited to an engineer with experience in oil & gas or utility environments who enjoys working on technically detailed projects, collaborating across teams, and supporting both design and field activities.


Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering design and technical support for electrical and instrumentation systems on capital projects

  • Support installations and modifications within facilities such as pressure regulating stations, compressor stations, pipelines, and related infrastructure

  • Prepare and review conceptual and detailed designs including single line diagrams, grounding layouts, schematics, I/O lists, interconnection and wiring drawings, and control panel layouts

  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, codes, and engineering standards

  • Develop project deliverables including cost estimates, schedule inputs, and technical documentation aligned with project requirements

  • Participate in feasibility assessments, engineering evaluations, and equipment selection, including preparation of purchase requisitions

  • Provide technical support to operations teams and act as a subject matter resource for electrical and instrumentation systems

  • Conduct site visits and field inspections to support project execution and validate design implementation

  • Prepare control narratives and system functional descriptions

  • Support project teams by identifying design constraints, recommending solutions, and applying appropriate engineering techniques

  • Contribute to project coordination, ensuring quality, consistency, and alignment with technical standards

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, supporting knowledge sharing and development

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and support enhancements to engineering processes and practices


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from a recognized program

  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC)

  • Minimum 4–7 years of experience in natural gas transmission and distribution facilities or oil and gas projects

  • Strong working knowledge of electrical and instrumentation/control system engineering and design, including:

    • Electrical service distribution

    • Single line diagrams

    • Grounding layouts and details

    • Schematics and wiring diagrams

    • I/O and interconnection drawings

    • Control panel and cabinet layouts

  • Working knowledge of control systems including DCS, PLC, HMI, and SCADA/telemetry systems

  • Familiarity with applicable Canadian and provincial codes and standards within oil and gas or utility environments

  • Experience preparing engineering documentation, technical reports, and design deliverables

  • Experience supporting projects through design, construction, and commissioning phases

  • Willingness to work full-time in-office and travel to project sites as required
