MatchBox Consulting is sourcing on behalf of a client in the engineering services sector for an Intermediate Electrical Designer. This opportunity is ideal for a motivated professional with experience across commercial, institutional, residential, and industrial building projects. The role involves close collaboration with Engineers, CAD/Revit specialists, and other consulting disciplines.

Summary

The Intermediate Electrical Designer will support the design and coordination of building electrical systems across commercial, institutional, residential, and industrial projects. This role includes applying electrical codes, completing technical calculations, preparing drawings, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver compliant, high-quality designs.

Key Responsibilities

• Work under the direction of a Project Engineer or Senior Designer to complete electrical designs in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC).

• Perform electrical calculations including feeder sizing, overcurrent protective devices, transformers, motor loads, and starters.

• Calculate voltage drop for feeders and branch circuits.

• Prepare and update electrical drawings using AutoCAD and Revit.

• Coordinate electrical designs with other consultants and disciplines.

• Complete basic lighting point-by-point calculations using software such as AGi32 or Visual.

• Support the design of building electrical systems including power distribution, lighting and lighting controls, life safety systems, and communications.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma.

• 3 to 5+ years of experience designing electrical systems for commercial, institutional, residential, and/or industrial buildings.

• Registered with APEGA or ASET, based on qualifications.

• Working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), ABC, NFPA, and CSA standards.

• 2 to 5 years of experience using Revit MEP (2013 or later) and AutoCAD (2013 or later).

• Experience designing power distribution, lighting, lighting controls, fire alarm, security, and communications systems.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Organized, methodical, and able to meet project deadlines.

• Professional, responsible, and collaborative work style.

• Proficiency with MS Office and standard design software.
