MatchBox Consulting Group is recruiting on behalf of its client for an Electrical Engineer to support transmission line projects within a utility infrastructure environment.
This position is well suited to an engineer with experience in transmission systems who enjoys technical problem solving, field involvement, and working within multidisciplinary project teams to deliver complex infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities
- Develop engineering designs and technical solutions for overhead transmission lines and underground cable systems (60kV–500kV)
- Perform engineering analysis including electrical clearances, grounding, lightning protection, EMF, transient overvoltage, AC interference, ampacity, and related studies
- Prepare engineering deliverables including reports, specifications, calculations, design basis documents, hazard logs, and test plans
- Develop design work packages including scope, duration, and level of effort estimates
- Prepare signed and sealed engineering deliverables as Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with EGBC requirements
- Provide technical support during construction, including field reviews and ensuring compliance with engineering designs
- Support project teams in managing scope, schedule, and cost for assigned engineering tasks
- Review designs prepared by others and provide technical guidance aligned with established standards and practices
- Participate in engineering studies, problem-solving activities, and risk assessments for transmission projects
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and support overall project delivery
Requirements
- University degree in Engineering or Applied Science
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with EGBC or eligible for registration
- Valid EGBC Permit to Practice (or ability to obtain prior to assignment start)
- Minimum 4 years of progressive engineering experience, preferably within transmission lines, substations, or protection and control environments
- Experience with electrical design of overhead transmission lines and underground cables (60kV–500kV) in a utility setting
- Strong understanding of engineering design across the full project lifecycle, from conceptual design through testing and commissioning
- Ability to perform engineering analysis using industry standards and applicable software tools
- Familiarity with CAD systems and engineering drawing standards
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong technical writing and communication skills in English
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and willingness to travel for field reviews as required
- Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams and understand project coordination requirements
Assets
- Previous experience working within a utility environment
- Experience with protection and control or telecommunications systems
- Familiarity with transmission line projects and large infrastructure construction
- Knowledge of utility engineering design practices and project delivery processes
- Site experience on large construction projects such as substations, transmission lines, or hydroelectric facilities
