Matchbox Consulting Group is seeking an Emergency Preparedness Manager to work on a 4- month contract for one of BC's largest utility and energy companies.

The Business Decision Support Professional facilitates complex decision-making in support of the design and implementation of business change or improvement initiatives.

This role contributes to achieving compliance to the new WSBC emergency planning regulations related to hazardous materials. This role is responsible for improving preparedness and response by ensuring plans are adapted or developed for all sites.

Location: Burnaby (Wednesdays and Thursdays in the office)

The major responsibilities include:

• Develop guidelines on what is considered a hazardous material in a quantity that may endanger a person.
• Develop an inventory of hazardous materials, detailing locations, info on effects/ precautions and approximate and maximum quantities at all sites.
• Develop and document for all sites, a risk assessment for hazardous substances, considering potential emergency generation or workplace entry, in consultation with a qualified person, including risks from and to external workplaces, and utilizing industry-assigned hazard ratings.
• Develop for all sites emergency response procedures associated with the incoming and outgoing threats.

Other Responsibilities:

• Translate business insights into strategic, actionable options by obtaining and organizing key business information, enabling informed decision-making.
• Facilitate decision-making across diverse groups of stakeholders by using excellent skills in communication, critical thinking, and persuasive influencing to deliver recommendations that align to the business goals.
• Maintain meaningful business relationships by prioritizing strategic considerations in a complex environment with diverse groups of stakeholders so that projects are implemented as planned.
• Plan and organize business initiatives by using knowledge in business drivers, risk tolerance, and trade-off processes, to enable successful integration and adoption in a complex and regulated environment.

Requirements:

• A minimum eight (8) years of strategic business analysis experience or equivalent
• Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience (Emergency Management, Operations, Safety, Project Management, Engineering, or related field) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of SharePoint, network drives, and MS Teams.
• Strong relationship management as well as proven ability to effectively collaborate with and influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Demonstrated communication abilities, specifically in a dynamic or rapidly changing environment.
• Strong relationship management as well as proven ability to effectively collaborate with and influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Demonstrated project management capabilities.
• Ability to prepare senior manager briefings and other reports on progress.
• Proven ability to work independently, facilitate conflict resolution when needed, thrive in a fast paced environment with multiple stakeholders that when working together effectively, determine your success.
• Understanding of technologies used to facilitate information sharing across multiple stakeholders and user groups.
• Strong organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to plan, execute, and keep track of work.

Nice to haves:

• Experience with emergency response planning and the emergency management system (i.e. incident command system, emergency centre activation) will be a benefit.
