Job Title: Civil Estimator
Location: Langley, BC
Industry: Civil Construction

Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Civil Estimator to join our team in Langley. The Civil Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for various civil construction projects, including roads, infrastructure, earthworks, and site servicing. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil construction, a solid understanding of project specifications, and the ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cost Estimating: Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for civil construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Bid Preparation: Lead the preparation of competitive bids and tender submissions, ensuring all necessary documentation is complete.
  • Plan Analysis: Review project plans, specifications, and related documents to identify scope, project risks, and required resources.
  • Quantity Takeoffs: Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from project drawings, specifications, and scope documents.
  • Subcontractor and Supplier Coordination: Obtain and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Budgeting: Assist in the development of project budgets and work closely with project managers to align estimates with project goals.
  • Value Engineering: Provide input on cost-saving measures and suggest alternatives that align with the client’s budget and project requirements.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify project risks related to costs and construction challenges, providing solutions and contingency planning.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of all estimates, bid documents, and correspondence, ensuring accuracy and transparency.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and the construction team to ensure estimates align with project scope and timelines.
  • Project Support: Provide ongoing cost monitoring, forecasting, and reporting during the project lifecycle to ensure adherence to the budget.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in estimating for civil construction projects, including roads, site services, and earthworks.
  • Education: A degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Software: Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., HeavyBid, Hard Dollar, B2W Estimate) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project).
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of civil construction techniques, materials, and industry best practices.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to perform accurate quantity takeoffs and cost analyses with strong attention to detail.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly present estimates and reports.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to achieve project goals.
  • Time Management: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple estimates and meet tight deadlines.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with large-scale civil infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of local construction codes, regulations, and environmental standards
  • Familiarity with contract documents, tendering processes, and procurement practices
