Our client is a reputable and established general contractor based in Abbotsford, specializing in woodframe multifamily and Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional (ICI) construction projects. With a focus on delivering high-quality, cost-effective solutions, we work closely with clients, architects, and subcontractors to ensure every project is completed on time and within budget.

Job Overview:
The Estimator will be responsible for managing the estimation process for both woodframe multifamily and ICI construction projects, from project inception through to final tender. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction estimating, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with the project team to ensure successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare and Analyze Estimates:

    • Develop accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for woodframe multifamily and ICI projects based on project specifications, plans, and scopes of work.
    • Analyze and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and other documentation to determine project requirements.
    • Perform material takeoffs, quantity surveys, and pricing for all construction elements.
    • Identify potential risks and cost-saving opportunities.
  2. Collaborate with Team:

    • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather information and ensure all aspects of the project are accounted for in the estimate.
    • Coordinate with architects and clients to clarify project scope, timelines, and specific requirements.
    • Participate in pre-bid meetings, walk-throughs, and site visits to gain a thorough understanding of the project site.
  3. Tender and Bid Preparation:

    • Prepare bid submissions and present cost proposals to clients, including detailed breakdowns of labor, materials, and overhead costs.
    • Ensure timely submission of bids, while maintaining accuracy and compliance with tender requirements.
    • Develop and maintain a database of costs for past projects to help inform future bids.
  4. Cost Control and Budget Management:

    • Assist project managers in tracking and managing budgets throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Monitor project costs during construction to ensure they align with the initial estimate and identify any potential deviations.
    • Provide cost forecasting updates to senior management and clients.
  5. Market Research and Vendor Relations:

    • Research and keep updated on market trends, material prices, and subcontractor capabilities to ensure competitive pricing.
    • Maintain relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and industry contacts to source the best prices and quality.
  6. Reporting and Documentation:

    • Maintain detailed records of estimates, correspondence, and contract documents.
    • Provide regular updates on project estimation status to the senior management team.
    • Assist in preparing reports and analyses on project costs, margins, and estimates for financial planning.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction estimating, with a strong focus on woodframe multifamily and ICI projects.

  • Education: Degree or diploma in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field is preferred.

  • Skills:

    • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Procore, Sage, Buildertrend, etc.) and MS Office Suite.
    • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and processes, specifically in woodframe and ICI construction.
    • Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Certifications (Preferred but not required):

    • AACE (Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering) certification.
    • PMP (Project Management Professional) or similar construction-related certifications.

Work Environment:
This position is based in our Abbotsford office with occasional site visits required. The Estimator will work closely with the project management and field teams, ensuring all aspects of the projects are estimated accurately and efficiently.
