A leading residential homebuilder in Calgary is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Estimator to join their team. This role plays a key part in delivering accurate costing for single-family and multi-family home construction projects, supporting both pre-construction and active build phases. The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of residential construction processes, cost control, and vendor relations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate and detailed estimates for new home construction projects, including take-offs and material/labour costing
- Analyze architectural drawings, engineering reports, and specifications to determine scope of work and pricing
- Collaborate with the drafting, purchasing, construction, and sales teams to refine designs and maintain cost efficiency
- Maintain and update unit costing databases and historical data for future budgeting
- Review and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes for accuracy and competitiveness
- Support the tendering process and assist in contract preparation
- Monitor cost changes and provide pricing impact assessments for design revisions or upgrades
- Assist in identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or design intent
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of estimating experience in residential construction (single-family or multi-family)
- Post-secondary education in Construction Estimating, Construction Management, Architectural Technology, or a related field
- Proficiency with estimating and homebuilding software (such as BuilderMT, NewStar, or similar)
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills with high attention to detail
- Effective communication and organizational abilities
- Familiarity with local construction methods, materials, and building codes
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
