About Our Client

Our client is one of Canada’s leading infrastructure contractors, delivering some of the country’s most complex transportation and civil construction projects. With a strong pipeline of major pursuits and awarded work across Western Canada and beyond, they continue to invest in growing their preconstruction team.

Due to an exceptional volume of upcoming opportunities, they are seeking multiple Heavy Civil Estimators across junior, intermediate, and senior levels to join their Vancouver office. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to nationally significant infrastructure projects while working within a collaborative, high-performing estimating group.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Preconstruction, you will play a key role in preparing competitive estimates for large-scale heavy civil infrastructure projects. Working closely with operations, engineering, project management, subcontractors, and suppliers, you will develop accurate cost estimates and help secure some of Canada’s largest infrastructure projects.

Current pursuits and projects include major transportation, marine, bridge, dam, and earthworks programs across Canada.

This position is based in our client’s downtown Vancouver office and requires an in-office presence five days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare complete and accurate estimates for heavy civil infrastructure projects.
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, contracts, and tender documents.
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs from construction drawings.
  • Develop labour, equipment, material, subcontractor, and indirect cost estimates.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
  • Participate in site investigations and pre-bid meetings as required.
  • Identify project risks, opportunities, and value engineering alternatives.
  • Prepare bid submissions, RFP responses, RFQs, and prequalification packages.
  • Support project handover following successful tender awards.
  • Conduct post-bid and post-project reviews to improve estimating performance.
  • Maintain estimating databases and historical cost information.
  • Ensure compliance with company estimating procedures and risk management practices.

Qualifications

We’re open to candidates across a broad range of experience, from junior estimators looking to grow through experienced senior estimators and project managers with estimating expertise.

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • Experience estimating or managing heavy civil construction projects.
  • Background in transportation infrastructure, bridges, structures, earthworks, highways, dams, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Strong understanding of construction means, methods, productivity, and job costing.
  • Experience performing quantity take-offs and preparing detailed estimates.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with estimating software is considered an asset.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines within a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.

Preferred Experience

Candidates with experience in one or more of the following will be highly regarded:

  • Heavy civil infrastructure
  • Bridges and structures
  • Earthworks
  • Marine infrastructure
  • Highway construction
  • Dams
  • Large EPC or Design-Build projects

Project Managers with strong estimating experience who are interested in transitioning into a full-time estimating role are also encouraged to apply.
