About the Opportunity
Estimator
This position has a profound effect on the success of the company. In this role, you will be responsible 
for working on a myriad of estimates from industrial, commercial, and multi-family residential, tenant 
improvements.
This role represents the Company in a professional manner while keeping our best interests in mind by 
providing leadership, working closely with Pre-Construction and Development Departments in a team 
environment, ensuring consistent implementation and systems that optimize the performance and 
adherence to the high standard of cultural and ethical values of Orion Construction.
Responsibility Statement
Manage estimates on new projects, while working closely with Orion team members, consultants, and 
trades to provide high quality take offs and estimates.
General Functions and Duties

• Generate comprehensive project estimates based on conceptual drawings and minimal 
information.
• Review estimates with project stake holders
• Attend pre-tender site visits as required.
• Review drawings and specifications for completeness.
• Prepare tender documents for projects.
• Identify and propose project risk and cost mitigation as well as the potential for project 
opportunities and cost savings.
• Solicit trade pricing and compile a full RFP package
• Provide clear, detailed quantity take-offs.
• Assemble accurate and well-organized estimates and proposals in a timely manner
• Complete Budgeting and Scheduling for projects.
• Organize sub-contractors’ quotations, ensure quotes meet contract documents and 
scope of work, filling in any gaps that may exist.
• Maintain and expand sub-trade relationships and ensure trade list is updated regularly.
• Ensure that the various departments are provided with proper documentation related 
to project.
• Work with and manage with concerns of the various departments
• Provide and maintain unit pricing and database for material and labour costing.
Communication
• Participate in regular estimating team meetings
• Create relationships with various subcontractors and vendors to promote Orion 
Construction and build the sub-contractor list.

• External: Owner or 3rd Party Clients; Consultants; Subcontractors; 
Clients; Third Party Work and AHJ’s.
1. Scheduled Meetings
• Weekly Estimating Department meetings.
• Site Trade Meetings as required.

• Cost tracking and monitoring reports
• Postmortem reports and cost analysis
Position Qualifications
1. Experience
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience as an estimator or estimating related 
experience building/developing construction management
• Graduate from recognized engineering, architectural or construction 
management program is an asset.
• Previous experience estimating projects into the $ 40 million range.
• A proven ability to comprehend tender documents, specifications, and 
drawings, with an understanding of contractual requirements.
• Detailed understanding of all construction scopes of work.
• General construction knowledge: understanding of specifications, 
materials, and methods and procedures gained through site visits or 
on-site experience.
• Knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation, including 
quantity takeoff procedures, trade contractor procurement, 
interdepartmental functions, pricing, and bid-closing procedures.
• Exceptional communication skills.
1. Education
• Post-secondary education with college diploma or degree related to 
Construction Management, Quantity Surveying and/or estimating.
1. Competencies
• Strong spreadsheet and database skills.
• Strong negotiation & written / oral communication skills, organized and 
detailed oriented.
• Clear, consistent, and reliable communicator
• Good knowledge of building codes and construction practices.
• Competence in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel & Project), 
Timberline, and Sage 300 CRE, Timberscan, estimating software, BIM 
software
• Enthusiasm for challenge and new initiatives is a must. Presents 
themselves as promotable, innovative, creative and a self-starter.
• Proven ability to work under pressure, be resilient and prioritize tasks 
and meeting. deadlines for normal functions and special assignments.
• Results oriented with a sense of urgency
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work well in a team environment and to build positive 
working relationships.
• Must be able to apply innovative and effective management 
techniques to maximize team performance
