On behalf of our client, Matchbox Consulting Group is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Estimator to join a leading civil general contracting firm in Vancouver. The Estimator will play a crucial role in preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for civil construction projects, including infrastructure, excavation, shoring, roadwork, utilities, and site development. The ideal candidate is analytical, knowledgeable about construction practices, and adept at identifying cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Estimating and Proposal Development:

   • Analyze project specifications, drawings, and requirements to prepare comprehensive estimates.
   • Develop detailed cost breakdowns, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
   • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to assess project scope and develop bid strategies.
   • Prepare and submit timely and competitive proposals.

2. Quantity Takeoffs and Cost Analysis:

   • Perform accurate quantity takeoffs using software tools and manual calculations.
   • Research and evaluate current market pricing for materials, labor, and equipment.
   • Identify potential cost risks and opportunities within project scopes.

3. Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination:

   • Solicit and review quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.
   • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and subcontractors.
   • Evaluate and negotiate terms with subcontractors to align with project budgets.

4. Project Collaboration and Reporting:

   • Work closely with the project team to support project budgeting and planning.
   • Provide regular updates and reports to stakeholders on estimation progress and adjustments.
   • Review and refine estimates post-project to improve future estimating accuracy.

5. Compliance and Documentation:

   • Ensure all estimates comply with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards.
   • Maintain organized records of all estimates, bids, and correspondence.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 3+ years of experience as an estimator in civil construction or general contracting.
• Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, ProEst, or similar tools).
• Strong knowledge of civil construction practices, techniques, and materials.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.
• Familiarity with local regulations, permitting processes, and market conditions in Vancouver.
