MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Health & Safety Manager to join our client, an established civil infrastructure contractor, to lead and evolve its corporate Safety Management System across operations.

This is a high-impact leadership role with direct exposure to executive stakeholders and a mandate to drive continuous improvement, compliance, and safety culture across the organization. Key Responsibilities
Safety Management & Compliance

• Lead the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the corporate Safety Management System
• Ensure full compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations, the Canada Labour Code, National Safety Code, and NFPA standards
• Oversee ISO 45001:2018 management system implementation, audits, and system reviews
• Manage COR internal audits and maintain annual safety certifications and prequalifications (ISNetworld, ComplyWorks, YVR, etc.)

Program Oversight & Risk Management

• Review and develop site-specific safety plans, safe work practices, orientations, and procedures
• Oversee incident investigations, site inspections, audits, and injury management programs
• Monitor and report on key safety metrics including RIFR, LTIFR, severity rates, ERA rates, and annual claims summaries
• Maintain safety statistics and identify trends and improvement opportunities

Leadership & Training

• Hire, mentor, and manage Health & Safety team members
• Oversee new hire safety onboarding and training programs
• Coordinate annual training initiatives and company-wide safety campaigns
• Lead Joint Health, Safety & Environmental Committee meetings
• Develop and distribute weekly safety topics, near-miss reviews, and safety communications

Stakeholder Engagement

• Liaise with executive leadership, project teams, and field operations
• Collaborate with external partners including WorkSafeBC, BCCSA, contractors, and corporate affiliates
• Support innovation initiatives and safety-focused company programs

Qualifications

• COR Internal Auditor certification
• 5+ years’ experience implementing Health & Safety programs within construction or a related industry
• Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC legislation and construction safety standards
• Proven leadership and team management capability
• Strong communication, facilitation, and presentation skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

• ISO Lead Auditor (preferred)
• CRSP, CSC, CSO, CHSC, RMP, or NCSO designation (preferred)
• Occupational First Aid, Respirator Fit Tester, Confined Space Entry & Rescue, and/or Fall Protection certifications (preferred)
