MatchBox Consulting's Burnaby-based client is seeking a Junior Functional QA Analyst to join their project team on an 8-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career QA professional with strong functional testing experience who is looking to build their expertise in enterprise applications. Experience working with Guidewire is considered a strong asset.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 3 days onsite (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and 2 days remote (Monday and Friday)

The successful candidate will be responsible for validating business and system requirements through comprehensive testing activities while collaborating closely with business analysts, developers, and project stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and execute comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test scripts based on business and functional requirements.
  • Perform functional, regression, integration, end-to-end (E2E), and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Validate system functionality across Guidewire applications and integrated systems (Guidewire experience is preferred but not required).
  • Execute API testing to validate system integrations and data exchanges.
  • Analyze test results, identify defects, and provide clear documentation of findings and recommendations.
  • Document testing activities, including test plans, test cases, execution results, and summary reports.
  • Collaborate closely with developers, Business Analysts, Product Owners, and project teams to ensure complete test coverage.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
  • Create and maintain automated test scripts using Selenium, Java, and Cucumber where appropriate.
  • Support the integration of automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Track and manage defects using tools such as JIRA, Azure DevOps, or ALM.
  • Assist in improving QA processes, testing standards, and best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience in a Quality Assurance or Software Testing role.
  • Experience executing functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing.
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Selenium
    • Java
    • Cucumber
    • API testing
    • SQL
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
  • Familiarity with defect tracking and test management tools such as JIRA, Azure DevOps, or ALM.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Experience testing Guidewire applications (PolicyCenter, BillingCenter, and/or ClaimCenter).
  • Knowledge of the Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance industry.
  • Understanding of insurance workflows including policy administration, billing, claims processing, and policy lifecycle management.
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing practices.
