MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking an experienced Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Specialist to join one of BC’s largest utility and energy companies on a 5 month contract with potential for renewal. This role involves supporting safety initiatives across diverse work environments, conducting risk assessments, and providing expert guidance to ensure regulatory compliance and the development of a strong safety culture. This is a FIFO position to Fort St. John, BC.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a safety business partner, providing subject matter expertise, technical support, and coaching to assigned clients.
- Design and develop hazard-specific safety programs and lead or support serious safety incident investigations.
- Review and revise safety procedures and risk assessments for employees and contractors to ensure compliance with internal standards and WorkSafeBC regulations.
- Conduct regular worksite inspections, recommend corrective actions, and interpret audit results.
- Provide advisory support on safety-related topics, including hazard identification, risk mitigation, confined space safety, and ergonomic principles.
- Evaluate new safety equipment and processes for compliance with safety standards.
- Lead individual safety projects and collaborate with senior safety specialists as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education: Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health plus 1 year of relevant experience, OR Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health plus 2 years of relevant experience.
- Experience: Safety-focused experience in operations, maintenance, construction, manufacturing, or healthcare industries.
- Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC, WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, and industrial hygiene principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and safety-related tools and procedures.
- Valid BC Driver’s License is required.
- Assets: CRSP designation and experience with safety programs on large industrial construction projects.
Additional Details:
- Shift: FIFO 14/7 or 10/4, with a maximum of 10 hours per day.
- Location Perks: Accommodations provided at camp; airfare or mileage reimbursed per company policy.
- Other: Safety-sensitive position; no per diem or LOA provided.
