Summary

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Procurement Specialist on behalf of our client, a leading building materials manufacturer with operations across North America.

This position requires someone who is proactive, independent, and comfortable building relationships directly with operations teams. It also offers an opportunity to develop strategic procurement skills and grow toward future management responsibilities within a large organization.

  • Location: Mississauga, ON – Greater Toronto Area
  • Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time
  • Work Model: Hybrid – 2 days per week in the Mississauga office, 2 days visiting operational sites, and 1 day working from home.

Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate the procurement of goods and services across assigned ready-mix concrete and aggregates operations.
  • Support procurement activities associated with approximately $200 million in regional spend.
  • Execute procurement and category strategies in collaboration with the Procurement Manager, Category Managers, and local business leaders.
  • Develop strong working relationships with plant managers, operations teams, suppliers, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Identify procurement needs and proactively support operational requirements across assigned sites.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities, supply efficiencies, and process improvements.
  • Analyze procurement data using Power BI, dashboards, and advanced Excel to identify spend patterns, cost trends, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop reports and dashboards that translate complex procurement data into actionable recommendations for management.
  • Support supplier negotiations involving pricing, service levels, volumes, quality, and contractual terms.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers of plant equipment, heavy mobile equipment, spare parts, maintenance services, and operational materials.
  • Coordinate RFx processes, supplier evaluations, and procurement activities supporting plant CAPEX projects.
  • Prepare contracts and supplier agreements using approved templates and established procurement procedures.
  • Track and report procurement KPIs, supplier performance, cost savings, and contract compliance.
  • Support procurement activities for equipment maintenance, operational purchases, and contractor services.
  • Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies, internal controls, and applicable regulations.
  • Work closely with operations to understand technical requirements and develop practical procurement solutions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and the adoption of procurement tools, processes, and best practices.
  • Ensure suppliers and contractors meet applicable site safety requirements.

Qualifications – Must-Haves

  • University degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline.
  • Approximately 4–5 years of procurement experience, including exposure to strategic sourcing, supplier management, and procurement processes.
  • Direct procurement experience within the cement, aggregates, ready-mix concrete, or closely related building materials industry.
  • Strong understanding of procurement requirements within industrial manufacturing or plant operations.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to analyze and manipulate large datasets.
  • Strong experience with Power BI, including developing dashboards, analyzing procurement data, and presenting findings.
  • Demonstrated ability to use data to identify cost savings, procurement opportunities, and strategic business improvements.
  • Strong business understanding and a customer-service-oriented approach to supporting internal stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience working directly with operations teams and developing relationships across different business functions.
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience managing supplier relationships.
  • Proactive and independent approach to problem-solving, with the ability to identify opportunities and take initiative.
  • Ability to manage multiple procurement priorities and deliver results within established timelines.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work across multiple operational sites throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Ability to travel legally to the United States.
Nice-to-Haves
  • Experience managing procurement activities involving large regional spend portfolios.
  • Experience purchasing plant equipment, heavy mobile equipment, spare parts, and maintenance services.
  • Experience supporting procurement for quarry, aggregates, or ready-mix concrete operations.
  • Experience with SAP.
  • Experience using eRFQ, eAuction, or other electronic procurement platforms.
  • Experience supporting plant CAPEX projects and supplier contracting.
  • Experience developing procurement dashboards, KPI reports, and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Exposure to category management and regional procurement strategies.
  • Experience working within a large, multinational manufacturing organization.
